The water was so still in early June 2017 in the Disko Bay. We were sailing north to Ilulissat and I was able to see melting ice in innumerable shapes and sizes and colors. It took 5 hours to go a few kilometers from Ilimanaq to Ilulissat because we had so much ice to navigate in our small boat. I had never seen such vivid and beautiful, pristine aquamarine water at sea with no waves or signs of life. I zoomed in with my lens and caught this intense piece of ice with a lot of texture and beauty in the imperfections.

As a principle, I do not do much editing to my photos. At most, I may adjust tones and brightness because I intentionally bracket or shoot dark to preserve details. This is what it looked like to the naked eye and I’m grateful to our brave captain that got us to our destination safely.
