Speaking, Insights & Engagement
Connecting people, knowledge, and perspectives to change how we see Greenland—and the world.
I am an independent Greenland authority, researcher, photographer, and communicator who brings together firsthand experience, Indigenous knowledge, historical research, and contemporary analysis to make complex subjects accessible, compelling, and relevant.
My work goes beyond explaining Greenland. I connect people and ideas, challenge conventional assumptions, and encourage audiences to reconsider how we understand sustainability, conservation, economic development, and humanity's relationship with the natural world.
What began as a fascination with Greenland's ice and landscapes has evolved into years of independent study, extensive travel throughout the country, and relationships with Greenlanders across its communities. I spend extended periods on the ground learning directly from local residents, hunters, elders, and Indigenous experts, particularly among the Kalaallit, Tunumiit, and Inughuit. These experiences inform my ongoing examination of Greenland's history, contemporary society, environment, economy, and geopolitical significance.
My strength lies in connecting the dots. I draw connections across disciplines, cultures, and perspectives—often revealing overlooked relationships or challenging established narratives. I combine the rigor of research with the immediacy of firsthand experience, translating complex issues into clear, engaging stories that resonate with both general audiences and subject-matter experts.
Through lectures, public commentary, photography, research, and direct engagement, I help bridge the distance between Greenlanders and the wider world. My work has informed journalists, NGOs, business executives, travelers, and online audiences reaching millions of readers. I also engage directly with Greenlandic communities, increasingly communicating in Kalaallisut to participate in conversations rather than merely observe them.
Speaking That Changes Perspectives
An eloquent and engaging speaker with a Net Promoter Score of 100** in guest feedback, I develop visually compelling presentations that combine original photography, vivid personal stories, Indigenous perspectives, and interdisciplinary analysis.
My presentations invite audiences to question assumptions rather than simply absorb information. I am particularly interested in how Indigenous knowledge can broaden conventional thinking about sustainability, conservation, community, and the relationship between humans and nature.
Rather than treating Greenland as an untouched wilderness or a geopolitical prize, I present it as a living homeland whose people possess sophisticated knowledge, expertise, and perspectives essential to understanding its past and future.
I work with expedition cruise operators, educational travel organizations, and other institutions to create tailored narratives that enrich the visitor experience while providing meaningful context for the places and communities encountered.
My recent engagements include serving as a Greenland instructor for Road Scholar aboard HX expeditions, with an invitation to return, and three Greenland expeditions as guest lecturer aboard Swan Hellenic's SH Vega.
Research, Communication & Collaboration
Beyond the lecture hall, I help journalists, NGOs, executives, and other organizations navigate complex Greenland-related subjects.
My interests span Inuit knowledge systems, Arctic conservation, tourism, economic development, natural resources, infrastructure, geopolitics, and the intersection of Indigenous perspectives with contemporary institutions.
Whether clarifying an unfamiliar issue, connecting seemingly unrelated developments, bringing local voices into broader conversations, or challenging an established interpretation, I aim to make difficult subjects understandable without sacrificing their complexity.
I also draw on extensive firsthand experience in Japan, offering cultural presentations and perspectives informed by years of independent travel and study.
At the heart of my work is a simple conviction: understanding begins when we listen to people whose knowledge and experiences challenge our own assumptions.
**I earned a perfect +100 Net Promoter Score (NPS) as a Greenland Program Instructor for Road Scholar aboard HX Expeditions.
NPS is a widely used measure of audience satisfaction and willingness to recommend an experience. Scores range from -100 to +100, with +100 representing the highest possible achievement—meaning every respondent was a highly enthusiastic promoter, giving a recommendation rating of 9 or 10 out of 10.
This recognition reflects my ability to engage, educate, and inspire audiences through compelling storytelling, firsthand experience, and fresh perspectives on Greenland and its people.
