I absolutely hate it when companies are not transparent about the price of a trip. The Arctic / Greenland is not a cheap place to visit and I doubt it ever will be.

However, my extensive travels in the country have equipped me with how to save money. Uummannaq and Ilulissat together are not a common combination because the logistics are complicated. Since it is niche, a comparable trip with another provider would be around $12,000 USD / 71,000 DKK in the summer during high season before international flights. I am able to offer this SUMMER trip at $9,000 USD / 62.000 DKK single or $8,300 USD / 56,800 DKK double occupancy.

In winter, the price goes down considerably because fewer boating trips are available. The price starts at $7,000 USD double occupancy in the winter between the months of February and April for 10 days / 9 nights. The length of the trip is designed to maximize the likelihood of seeing the aurora and allow for any weather delays in Ilulissat or Uummannaq. This includes everything once you get to Greenland except alcohol and some optional activities like an igloo stay, Ilimanaq, kayaking, shopping and special interests.

My trip to Ilulissat + Uummannaq is designed for the semi-luxury traveler (as luxurious accommodation is not available in Uummannaq so we will be renting entire homes instead) and we will be staying in the best hotel in Ilulissat and dining in the best restaurants. Photography workshops are included and group discounts have been factored into the price. Every activity is fully guided and escorted unless you choose to go out on your own for the day.

It is very possible to reduce the cost by choosing a different hotel such as the in town apartments by Hotel Icefiord instead of Hotel Arctic and preparing some meals yourself in Ilulissat, as the included budget for dining is about $130 per person per day.

For those that truly want to come but cannot afford it, please contact me about a cheaper accommodation and flying through Copenhagen rather than Iceland. This can help save about $1500 USD / 10,000 DKK or more per person off the topline price if you book early enough on the Air Greenland Fly n’ Sleep fares out of Copenhagen with an overnight in Kangerlussuaq.

It can be done and I can assist so please reach out.

Note: Prices can change based on exchange rates. The USD rate is a guideline so please convert the DKK price when you’re doing your trip planning.
